Portfolio Discussion
Currently the numbers as of 10/06/2023: (total) $261,378 - (other) $25,000 = (mine) 236,378.
Overall market was down in the month of September so portfolio “fluctuated” with the market to some extend, but the main last min. drop was due to OMAB 0.00%↑ dropping almost 40%-50% due to regulatory changes that apparently no one saw coming. OMAB put out statement saying they are still evaluating what the changes mean for the company so no major moves on my part except that I bought just a bit around what was my average price.
Other then that I cant think of anything majorly important that made me make any changes to portfolio, I did DO some buying and looking to keep on adding to BUR 0.00%↑ + a new others whenever opportunity comes…with that said I’m starting to be running low on cash, which could mean I would have to start rotating cash out of other positions but until I run out of cash which is sitting at around 2K nothing will be sold.
As always reminder that paid subscribers know almost real time whatever I’m buying or selling or if I feel like something needs to be shared ASAP and cant wait for next monthly update.
Dividends for September:
Results From Detoxing
As I mentioned in last update, I took one week off fully from investing. No investing apps, no updates of emails, no Twitter or Commonstock, etc… zero…cold turkey…. and results… I think it was a net neutral overall (with slight overweight towards negative).
Although that week there was a lot of (my main line of work) work to do + plus my little ones were sick one after another and then also my wife which ended up in a way good to not do any investing and giving all my time to work and family, net it threw me off my investing mojo.
I felt like my mind was more relax but its been a bit harder to get back in investing, I do not know if its the “down markets”, having a lot of real work (as some of you might remember I have multiple line of businesses I do), having two little girls that require a lot of my attention, or maybe all of it together … but I need to find a way to get “back in” into investing and find my obsession again…
I think its probably good idea of taking a week off from looking at portfolio but maybe not going fully cold turkey.
Some stuff I had to re download and it messed with my settings so its been annoying to try to get back everything to “regular” like before plus I realized I like staying on top of all the news related to my main portfolio so moving forward if I decide to do another detox, I might just not look at my portfolio or something but I don’t have to go cold turkey.
On the positive note, I did realize that might I have been looking at portfolio a bit too much with “no real point” I have my price alerts in…. if something requires my attention because price went up or down (a lot) price alerts will let me know… if something major is happening there will be email notification from the company so even if price is not changed I will get email that I can read and again I do not need to look at portfolio, I can put in all of the options in the morning and just let it be.
Finally, not doing investing for a week was definitely an experience, its just I’m not sure if I want to repeat it, but I would say it needed to be done at least once…
Books
I realized that my descriptions of the books that I read may not always give them full credit as when I read these books and when I write about them, I only share one or two things that really stand out to me. So I have decided to also include a quick short description from Goodreads (no affiliations) so that way you get my thoughts but also more generic description to get a better feel for the books and in so hopefully adding them to your “to-read-list”.
This time around I finished only one physical book:
Cortical Circuitry by Sergey Alexashenko
YZ:
I cant remember, why I got this book or who recommended but I decided to read it over the week when I was “detoxing” from investing. Its definitely different from my usual read and I cant say that I understood a lot of details, but this book did give me a little window in understanding or better shall I say not understanding of how our minds (cortex in particular works) works and how complex the whole system is. It was easy to read and to grasp overall process, made me feel like sometimes we do not give enough credit/thought to our cortex and I guess our body/mind in general.
Goodreads:
I did not find “Goodreads” on it, but author is on substack https://substack.com/@sergey if anyone wants to check how on him.
This is from amazon’s page : The neocortex is the organ responsible for mammalian intelligence. Cortical Circuitry provides a readable account of how the neocortex works. It explains how individual neurons work and presents a theory about how the structure of the neocortex enables its many functions. This book covers the following subjects: what does the cortex do, how does a single neuron work, what do the different cortical layers do, and what can we learn from the cortex to build better AI. However, it does not use such field jargon for these concepts as dendritic computation in pyramidal cells, functional significance of the laminar structure of the neocortex, and biologically-inspired neural networks. This book is meant to be readable by anybody interested in the neocortex, no matter their level of prior knowledge about it.
I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Don’t forget to ❤️ this post. It helps a lot!
